Like I said before in my introduction from my home page I DO NOT want to sound “preachy”. So, I will not show you videos of animals being tortured. I do want people to embrace a plant based diet because it benefits not just one person but the whole planet. But for today let’s just start with an individual. There are too many health benefits to being a vegan to cram into one blog post. However, for the benefit of new visitors to my site I will highlight the major benefits it has for the human body. I will begin with what happens when a person just reduces their animal product intake.
Researchers from the Mayo clinic have found that because the fats in red meat and processed meat increase the risk of diabetes, stroke, and heart disease, a diet with these used in moderation can lower these health risks. That is a major benefit to reducing meat intake but do not forget other animal products can also raise the bodies cholesterol. The same research also suggests that you replace solid fats that are found in meat, eggs, and milk with fats that are considered oils, which can be found in nuts, fish, and seeds. So, reducing meat and animal by-products such as milk and eggs can reduce the risk of major diseases. There is a part two. Increasing the intake of fruits and vegetables. Because yes, the rumors are true, Oreos are vegan. There are numerous amounts of junk food that do not contain meat or animal by-products but they have no benefits to the bodies health. By increasing the amount of vitamin rich, low calorie fruits and vegetables in a diet a body will lose weight, increase energy, and even have glowing skin. And if this does not entice my readers to start even a semi plant based diet. Prevention starts with a healthy diet. I know we only live once and it is nice to indulge every so often and some illness is hereditary and cannot be avoided. However, it does not compare to the money and time you will save in the future by avoiding costly doctor visits and medication. So, give it a try even if you just start with #MeatlessMondays.
